The spreading English yew, Taxus baccata ‘Repandens’, is an exceptional low growing conifer that performs well in sun or shade. Its spreading habit makes it ideal as a medium-sized groundcover. Known for its very dark green needles year-round and is one of the few conifers that thrive in shade. Planted in combination with ferns, hostas and other shade-tolerant species this shrub will add depth and background and serve well as a backdrop for other showy plants. As is the case with yew in general, it can handle regular pruning allowing it to serve as a tidy low growing hedge.

Growing to an average height of 4′ this spreader can reach up to 10′ in width and is hardy to USDA Zones 5-9. Once established this shrub has relativly good drought tolearance.
